What is Yoga Nidra?

It is a form of guided meditation that that promotes the deepest level of relaxation, where the body can heal and repair itself.

Yoga Nidra is a powerful tool for stress relief and managing anxiety. It can also help improve sleep quality and reduce chronic pain.

We begin the class with:

  • a short series of asanas (movement) and
  • breathing practice to prepare the body and mind for Yoga Nidra.

The practice of Yoga Nidra involves lying down or sitting in a comfortable position and as i take you on a guided meditation to help relax and repair the body, mind and spirit.

Yoga Nidra can be as restorative as sleep, while you remain fully conscious. It can be practiced by anyone. No yoga experience is necessary.

Sleep & Yoga Nidra

While Yoga Nidra is not a substitute for actual sleep, one hour of yoga nidra practice is equivalent to four hours of sleep.

This is due to the series of brain waves experienced along the way. (Saraswati 1998, Kumar 2008).

Here is what you can expect from a typical yoga and afternoon tea mini retreat:

  • Yoga: The retreat will start with a yoga class, designed to help you relax and unwind. The class will be suitable for all levels of experience, so whether you're a beginner or a seasoned yogi, you'll be able to participate and enjoy the benefits.
  • Breathwork: Exercises to energise/calm/purify/expand the energy (chi) in the body & mind
  • Guided Meditation: Time to meditate together and go deeper into your practice.
  • Monthly Theme: Let us go deep into your heart's desires and connect with your inner guidance. Then with the use of skillful questions and inner enquiry I guide you through the topic of the month. Examples of themes: Creating a Vision Board, Letting go and Transformation, Building Resilience, Connect with Heart, Dealing with Money blocks.
  • Afternoon tea: At the end you will enjoy refreshments, complete with a variety of teas, and delicious home baking made with love. This is a great opportunity to socialise with other participants and take some time out for yourself to relax, renew and refresh yourself.
  • Final Meditation: This is where we consolidate all our insights and goals before closing the retreat.
