What is Tai Chi and how does it help?

Tai chi is a practice that involves a series of slow, gentle movements accompanied by controlled breathing to help create harmony within.
The word tai chi (太極) means “supreme ultimate” and is an ancient Chinese form of exercise originally created as a form of martial arts. It dates back at least 700 years - some scholars say even further. Today it is mainly practiced as an excellent form of exercise with many health benefits.
Benefits from practicing Tai Chi:
It has a host of benefits, including helping you maintain a healthy weight and blood pressure, improve heart health and immune function, and lower your risk for falls.
Modern life is often moving fast, leaving us feeling out of balance. Infinite Tai Chi helps us to slow down and recharge our batteries to bring balance back into our life. Here are a few of the health benefits of a regual Tai Chi practice.
Infinite Tai Chi has been designed to balance your whole physical, emotional and energetic systems. When the body is out of balance, it may become ill and sick. When it is brought back into natural balance, or perfect harmony, it will become radiantly healthy.
Tai chi movements are fluid, graceful, circular and slow. Breathing is deep, aiding visual and mental concentration. This relaxes the body and allows the life force (chi/qi) to flow freely through the body.

Who should try Tai Chi?
There are no age restrictions to practicing tai chi and people of all levels of physical fitness can engage in its practice and gain many health benefits. It is a low-impact exercise, sometimes referred to as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity and calm within - like in a sitting meditation practice.
Tai Chi practice is often suggested for older adults—it has a well-deserved reputation for improving balance and preventing falls. But experts agree that the benefits go far beyond balance, and anyone and everyone should give it a try.
“I recommend anybody of all ages and occupations try Tai Chi,” says Ruth Taylor-Piliae, Ph.D, R.N., Associate Professor at University of Arizona College of Nursing. “Tai Chi is a flexible, adaptable form of exercise for anyone.”
The best way to decide if it is for you is to give it a go!
