Everybody seems to be doing it! And if there are not doing it then they are talking about doing it. So what's the big deal? Why mediate?
Mediation is also known as simply being present. Taking a little time out of your day to sit still and breath. Practice this each morning before you get into your daily routine and you will start to see a calmer and less stressed you. Where before you may have got angry quickly over something or shouted at the kids because you had enough, you now realise that you are not so quick to explode and shout and rant at the press of a button. Life is more gentle and relaxed.
That's not to say you don't still get annoyed. It's just that it takes a little longer to press that ignite button. Instead of going from nought to sixty in 0.2 seconds flat you take a breath and decide how to act rather then reacting in the moment.
According to Physiology Today magazine, mediation helps:
Try it and see for yourself. Take just 3 minutes each morning before you get into your daily routine to sit and just breath deeply...... after about a week or so increase it to 5 minutes and then each day add another minute until you reach 20 minutes. You will be presently surprised at the difference it can make to your day.
Go on give it a go!
